Achieving climate neutrality is as huge a challenge for maritime shipping as it is for other industries. Over the coming years and decades, companies will have to invest massively in carbon neutrality as they face many new regulatory requirements. For a growing number of companies, this also includes mandatory sustainability reporting.
Under the requirements of the EU’s CSRD sustainability reporting directive, and in response to customer demand, a growing number of shipping companies are subject to mandatory, comprehensive and transparent reporting requirements regarding their efforts to address climate change, biodiversity, the environment and social issues along the entire value chain.
Meeting reporting obligations and driving sustainability strategies
To support member companies in fulfilling this important obligation, VDR has developed the new guideline “Nachhaltig auf Kurs”. It translates the complex regulatory requirements into practical, industry-specific guidance, easing the transition to sustainability reporting and materiality analyses while helping companies consolidate their sustainability strategies.
The guide is the result of close collaboration between VDR and its member companies and was compiled under the technical direction of Ute Schües.
In an exceptional step, VDR has made this guide available not only to its members, but also to interested non-member companies – because German shipowners are convinced: To achieve sustainability, we all have to act together.
